FAQ

How do I care for my My Fun products?

Since all My Fun products are hand made dry clean is the preferred method. This is to keep the integrity of the product for its original hand work and color. However if needed, wash separately and gently with a mild detergent in cold water only. Lay flat to dry. Do not put in the dryer.

Due to the natural inherent properties of cotton fiber and eco-friendly dyes there maybe natural running of color for some fabrics.

What makes My Fun products so unique?

All My Fun products are handmade in India using embroidery techniques that have been perfected through the ages. The embroidery techniques are distinctively Indian while the products’ designs are contemporary. And all My Fun products are eco-friendly, made from 100% cotton, filled with polyfill and using Azo free dyes.

Are My Fun products produced using fair trade practices?

Aashumi believes very strongly in fair trade practices and would not produce any of her products without the certainty that she had an equitable partnership with the local artisans producing her products. Aashumi traveled to India to tour the facilities where these artisans work and to interview the manager to ensure fair trade practices were being followed. The craftsmen are paid a living wage that is on the higher side of the average industry market rate in India. They are provided with clean housing separate from the work area, subsidized meals and basic health care. In addition, their work unit is air-conditioned, which is unusual for this part of the world, but necessary in the sweltering heat. Aashumi will continue to visit the facilities from time to time to monitor work conditions.

How do My Fun products assist in early childhood development?

The use of traditional Indian quilting and embroidery is intentional. Besides bringing the flavor of Indian culture to any household that purchases a My Fun product, the raised embroidery techniques and the designs provide children with the opportunity for multi-sensory play, child-directed play and the sense of learning by doing. From an early age, children learn about the world around them through all of their senses. Thus, My Fun products incorporate embroidery and quilting to enhance the sense of touch and textures and unconventional colors to stimulate visual learning. Because it doesn’t come with overwhelming lights and sounds, the child “directs” or guides himself during play.

If My Fun products are “child-directed”, how can my child and I play together with them?

Child-directed play does not exclude parents or caretakers. In fact, it can’t occur without your encouragement. To do this, carefully observe and listen to your baby, then respond to her interests. For example, if she's pulling at the hippo's ears, say, "Those are hippo's ears. You have ears too." and touch her ears. This gives her simultaneous visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation. When you respond to your child's visual attention and add the multi-sensory dimension, you are helping her to have a better understanding of the world.

Where did the idea for My Fun come from?

When Aashumi’s niece turned one, she hand made soft toys to stimulate her sense of imagination and play. The design of these toys drew from Aashumi’sIndian heritage and her background in textile design. The toys were bundled into a cloth bag that Atia could easily carry around with her. Watching her play with these toys inspired Aashumi to produce Mirasa Design’s My Fun line for infants and toddlers.
