Family Favorites

I think we started reading to our son from the first day of his life. Of course we were following Baby Center's advise on early reading and diligently incorporating a book into his  bedtime routine with hope of a good night's rest. But it was also one of our favorite things to do with our baby.

Being thankful and living in the moment

Being thankful and living in the moment

The other day, as I was walking down our neighbourhood sidewalk full of crunchy vermillion, ochre and brown leaves I noticed beautiful leaf impressions. Just as I was about to take a photo to keep this impression forever in my digital memory box I decided to hold it in my heart.

We then took out all her favorite toys to play with but she wasn’t having any of it, the more toys came out the more screams she let out.

Transitioning into motherhood - a message for new mothers

Transitioning into motherhood - a message for new mothers

It was a warm evening on November 16th 2015, I looked down into the palm of my hands and two lines looked backed at me on my pregnancy test. I was officially pregnant. The old me gone and the new me ready to start a very different journey. Some time had passed and when everything started to feel more real, many people would often tell me to enjoy life because things were about to change for good! I assumed I knew what they were referring to; long sleepless nights, crying babies and lots of diaper changers right?! But being a mother brings a different kind of change that no one really understands, and sometimes I feel, not even dads.

Where's the village that everyone keeps telling me about?

Where's the village that everyone keeps telling me about?

We've all seen it at some point or the other, the famous meme or the beautifully designed quote on someone's Instagram page - "It takes a village to raise a child." Before having a child, I would have probably just shrugged and scroll down when something like that popped up. But now that I am a mother, not only do I see the importance of this village but I am also questioning its existence.

Giving Back

Giving Back

Some of us are born into the world luckier than others. When I gaze back at my childhood in Bombay- India, I see fun vacations, healthy meals, lots of laughter, sports, temple every weekend and a blue school uniform with a white and blue gingham sash. Going to school (actually private school) wasn't a choice, it was a given, like breathing, a natural part of my life. My school, J. B. Petit High School for Girls, taught us to think, believe and live "Ever Forward". Upon graduation in 1995 this message was etched somewhere in my being.
